One important element, that needs to be kept in mind when purchasing kratom in bulk is how you are going to store it. Just like cannabis, kratom needs to be kept in certain conditions to ensure it keeps its quality over time and does not begin to break down and degrade. Here are several factors that you need to be aware in order to protect your stash.
Humidity is the enemy when storing cannabis, and it can also be viewed this way when attempting to store kratom for long periods of time. This is because humidity is one of the factors, that mould requires to start growing and proliferating. Once your stash has fallen victim to a mould invasion you are left with no choice but to discard of it.
Though do not fear, there are ways to reduce the humidity in the storage environment. If you have purchased kratom leaves, it would be wise to make sure they are entirely dry before putting them into a container. If you suspect any signs of moisture, lay them out flat on a tray and put them on a sunlit window sill for a short period of time or by a warm radiator.
You should always store your leaves within an airtight bag or glass jar. Before doing this there are always the options of curing your stash by putting it into a brown paper bag or sweating the jars every now and then to be sure all signs of moisture are gone. Keep your jars and bags in a low moisture environment, such as a dark cupboard or pantry with decent air circulation.
Oxidation is the process, that causes rust and makes left out food go bad, and it can affect your kratom too. Oxidation occurs when an atom loses one or more of its electrons, causing its properties to change. If you leave your kratom out for too long without storing it properly, it will be left exposed to the oxygen in the air, causing it to breakdown and degrade.
To prevent exposing your valuable kratom stash from unnecessary breakdown, wrap it tightly in an airtight material or store it in an airtight jar or bag. To take matters to the next level to ensure your kratom supply will last longer, store it within a bag with a vacuum sealer.
Although temporarily putting your stash in the sunlight to ensure it has dried sufficiently, it shouldn’t be there for too long. And it definitely should not be stored in a place where it is exposed to the UV (ultraviolet) rays of the sun for a long period of time. Although it enables you to get a tan and is healthy in small doses, this is not the case for your kratom. UV light will cause it to breakdown faster. This is due to the fact, that UV damages the DNA of cells via a molecular reaction.
The obvious step to take to prevent this from occurring is to store your jars of kratom in a dark environment, such as a cupboard. You can ensure further safety by storing your kratom in jars made out of UV glass, that will protect your plant material from the sun's rays.
