Medical Marijuana as a Tincture

A marijuana tincture is an alcohol based solution with cannabinoids dissolved into it. They became very popular in the 1800's after its use was made famous by Dr. Walter O'Shaughnessy and his paper “On The Preparation of the Indian Hemp, or Gunjah”. It became the most common form of administering medical cannabis into the system, pretty much every pharmacy in the USA had a stock of it.

It is very easy to make and administer, with only a few drops being placed under the tongue required. This is absorbed directly into the bloodstream giving fast and strong relief without any of the draw backs of smoking. It can also be added to food for ingestion and a much longer period of relief, as the body's digestive system turns THC into 11-hydroxy-THC.

The amount you will require will vary depending on the strain it has been derived from as well as the type and severity of your ailment. It is best to start with one or two drops, see how that effects you and then go from there.

To summarize:

Pros of a Tincture:

  • None of the health worries of smoking
  • None of the calories of eating
  • Can be both fast acting or slow depending on how it is applied
  • Can be taken discreetly
  • Easy to conceal
  • Will not be consumed by others accidentally like cannabis infused food may be

Cons of a Tincture:

  • Requires the use of alcohol
  • Can taste pretty nasty
  • Alcohol evaporates over time, increasing the concentration of the solution
