Market researchers estimated the annual revenue that coffeeshops are making each year. There are about 600 in the Netherlands, each of them is making a revenue between 1,4 and 2 million euro a year. This means a rough estimate of about 1 billion euro combined! It has to be noted that these numbers are not necessarily 100% accurate because coffeeshops are legally not able to buy large quantities of weed and therefore often don’t have the most accurate bookkeeping.

The market research institute Interdit Access and researcher Nicole Maalsté believe that these numbers are more or less accurate. Maalsté examined over 80 coffeeshops and estimated that an average coffeshop makes about 1,7 million in cannabis sales every year.
